Thetis: Mother of Achilles (in the Iliad; in Greek mythology)....and, much later (smile) a battleship in the real world.(Also, a name in a Ronald Firbank novel. Pynchon seems to have read Firbank, says Harold Bloom. [Much AtD dialogue is Firbank-like, from my partial reading of one novel]

Shalimar: A railway station in India, a perfume and also a battleship HMS Shalimar (P242),

Mezzanine: a floor between main and first floors (nice "making it in Hollywood" joke?)
