Abbie Hoffmans of the world did and continue to do so. And Against
the Day is filled with favorable portraits of the Abbie Hoffmans of
the Gilded Age. And it's pretty obvious that Pynchon used material 
from "Murdered by Capitalism" by John Ross of Trinidad, CA,
one of the Abbie Hoffmans of our time:
