TRP unfilmable?

Maybe I skimmed FT as I do most messages that are both disagreeable and at
the same time claim ignorance. There are musical theater singers who are
able to sing off-key when the part calls for them to do so, e.g. Ado Annie
in Oklahoma, but they sound very different from people who are unable to
sing in tune.

In "Something Happened,"
http://www.nytimes.com/books/98/02/15/home/heller-something.html , IMHO
Heller's bester book, Heller had the skill to write in a monotone befitting
his narrator, but the effect required length of the book to appreciate. I
detect nothing special about FT's writing; it's the kind of sophomoric
lampoonery that I've been writing since I was a Junior, high school Junior,
that is.

Sorry if anyone reading this was the writer of the FT letters, but as far as
naïve rube voices are concerned, I'll take my Candide fruit with a smart
book and beautiful music at Wolf Trap on 6 July.

I followed the thread very closely. Something in the deliberately applied
idiotics rang a bell. I responded to "Friend Tom's" post with:

My understanding is that Thomas Pynchon's family tree is full of heretics.
My reading of the author's writings indicates that Mr. Pynchon's
literary output is profoundly heretical, and requires understanding
of some rather occult goings on. Some of the pages of GR are
either quotes from or magical actions derived from A.E. Waite's
book of black magic. My advice is that you should proceed with
extreme caution.

And I got an off-list response, one I've already re-posted to the p-list,
so whathahell, whathahell:

<snip>

The crucial passage is:

          * I don't count things on The Simpsons so I can't help
the person who asked. I only mention the show because
it is actually a Christian-friendly message, and Mr.
Pynchon knew it full well when he made his appearance
in 2004. Everyone would agree that he's pretty smart, yes?
Do any of you doubt for a nanosecond that he failed to
understand the Christian interpretation of the show on
which his bagged head appeared? Not a chance.

How would Friend Tom know what The Guy With The Bag Over His
Head Knows unless Friend Tom is The Guy With The Bag Over His Head?

In any case, that respone for whatever reason, made me look at
hersy in particular, as it relates to OBA's history and the messages in his
books.
