a mole, huh? I find that this comes up in Upton Sinclair's Oil, and the
fact that the lead boy goes to bed with a performing arts star. And that
Hollywood's [not yet in atd?right) going to figure in with both titles. The
way she's described as being somehow older than him in years, meaning lived
hard, sold body, that sort of thing. Paybacks. Future scenes of party
excesses in the Industry with rum runners etc. I still haven't quiite
finished oil yet. Bet she can't be pinned down, either! Not to get all
nostalgic, but this was such a time of great changes. Changes in sexual
mores for sure-

to which I now append, as Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story:
...peaking of which, that Q-weapon, Crouchmas's contact told him,
was now up for sale by the Nipponese government, which - he had
the impression - was scared of it...
so, Umeki, who trusted in her professors to investigate the implement
discreetly, must have failed to discern a government mole in her academic
hideaway...or been lying to Kit or fooling herself...
and Kit never got the chance to ask her about it, as we shall see...
