Hitler was blinded temporarily with Phosgene gas in 1918, in Flanders,
while recovering and still half blind he was notified of the
armistice.

and though not used on the battlefield of WW2, Phosgene was used in
concentration camp experiments on inmates, notably by Karl Brandt,
Hitler's physician.
