Longer answer:  What I only very occasionally anymore respond to is the capturing of this formerly useful list by acolytes who seem to believe that it's not enough to like Pynchon's work, but one must, like you, treat him like some sort of avatar. He's a good writer.  He's written one great novel and a number of others that are not so great.




I don't feel that to come here I need to touch the hem of the great man's garment.  Nevertheless he interests me.  But he is not the writer in his later years that Roth is in his. Not nearly.  There's an interesting discussion to be had there, but it won't be had amongst the converted, amongst whom count yourself, you predictable bore.
