Same age here, and from (compromised, sold-out, settled-for-less) here the
central craziness looks to have been the belief that things -- people --
could and would change much faster than there's any precedent for
believing... at least without Red Guard or Khmer Rouge tactics.
 
We were a big demographic boomer bulge, TIME put us on the cover, and we
thought our own readiness -- at that freeform age -- to turn it all upside
down and let it all hang out was much more widely shared than in fact it
