Jill,
I saw the movie so long ago, I can't remember it.
BUT, I bet that speech and that hole in the map DID get into OBAs head....
Great, freat finds..........wiki-worthy.

In the movie, it's plumbing rather than railroads. The baad capitalist
who's among the westerners who travel there, brings knowledge of casting
pipelines of plumbing. Another bit in the movie has the people aboard the
airplane looking at a map with useless blank spot in the mountain section
over Asia where they're being flown, which reminded me of ATD. I did find
there to be fleeting moments of pure beauty, in the dialogue and concept.

Miscellaneous: The library at Shangri-La is supposed to be a
repository for the world's great literature. There is a number of
"Readers Digest Condensed Books" on its shelves.
