P. 156 money...a movement always needs money...Cf. sons wanting their fathers' money as a generational motivation--Nechaev repeats it.
Matronya runs and gets some.....she gets to D. when she quotes Pavel as saying he made thousands and kept it all...Nechaev says he gambles not because he doesn't care about money but because he is "never satisfied"...
Being accused of greed gets to D.....he pulls out money and lets Nechaev
take it.....
Called selfish, esp. by his stepson through Matronya, makes D. become a financier of the movement he despises........
Is Coetzee half-implying that to write about Nechaev and The People's Vengeance in a book that sells some is to be a kind of financier of the movement?...The book that sells keeps the movement going???
