P. 160...hand in flame...a story out of Nietzsche about depth of one's commitment, one's will to power, so to simplify....
Admittedly not a thorough search, no biographies read, but this story does NOT seem to have been true of Nechaev, that we know of....

Coetzee linking Nechaev with fierce will to power Nietzschean 'transvaluation of all values"??...God is dead, long live revolutionary man?
John Jay Chapman, interesting American social/political writer, once did this--hand in flame--in expiation (i think) and G. Gordon Liddy, Nietzsche-reading Watergate burgler-spy, wrote of doing it...
