It's an incredibly moving moment in American history, when you consider all that's come before, from slavery through the civil rights movement, and all of the institutionalized racism that exists in every facet of American life. But Obama is a pragmatic, centrist politician (he wouldn't have had a chance of being elected, otherwise), and promises to be somewhat of a rehash of the Clinton administration (as his choice of Chief of Staff suggests). His campaign promises to move troops from Iraq to Afghanistan and possibly, Pakistan, also don't bode well for him as a transformative leader, in terms of his actual policies. I'd certainly love to be proven wrong, though.
