re doorstoppers

Started that one. Didn't finish. Did read "Last Temptation of Christ"
more than once and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Another doorstopper: "Joseph & his Brothers" by Thomas Mann. Got
halfway through that one.  "The Magic Mountain" certainly qualifies
and is well worth the trip.
