Don't read _The Death of Artemio Cruz_ by Carlos Fuentes.
It's the only novel I have set down unfinished in decades. It is
a retelling of Mexican History during some very bloody years, and
follows Senor Cruz while he jumps from side to side, as his
erstwhile compadres are murdered.
