Hal Holbrook? A proxy Mark Twain could only be a good thing in any
Administration: Twain decried waterboarding way back in the
Spanish-American War.

Or some other Holbrooke?

Obviously few will follow this link, knowing I'm a sucker for conspiracy sites.

Richard Holbrooke is the one who may have a frequent visitor pass to
the White House next year. Scouring Wikipedia for how this person
may've aroused malignd's ire, I find this about East Timor: "Behind
the scenes, Holbrooke and Zbigniew Brzezinski played point in trying
to frustrate the efforts of congressional human rights activists to
try and condition or stop US military assistance to Indonesia and in
fact accelerated the flow of weapons to Indonesia at the height of the
genocide"

Also he wrote one of the volumes of the Pentagon Papers
(thread seepage: that is another doorstopper I've got my eye on; and
having read the White House Tapes back in the day, I hope someday to
reread that as well)

He urged the US toward military action in Central Europe.

He negotiated a big United Nations membership dues reduction for the
US in 1999, and got Ted Turner to chip in a bunch of it, earning a
standing ovation from a Senate Committee for so doing. Active in
bringing Indochina refugees to the US. Wrote some books, edited
Foreign Relations magazine, active dude. Member of CFR, was on board
of AIG till last July, also Lehmann Brothers in the 80s.

All roads lead to the Bilderbergers, Trilateral Commission, Council on
Foreign Relations...but hey, maybe those guys are also tired of war
'n' shit...

and it makes me think perhaps this president - since he is connected
with those groups - will not be assassinated, which can only be a good
thing even if Mr Obama isn't exactly the idealist we may have been
hoping for (can you imagine if that grenade had gone off near Bush in
what was it Croatia? President Cheney declaring new Homeland Security
Initiatives...)
