Hello,
This information comes from the journal of Myron Eells and the catalog
of his mineral cabinet.
Here is part of a journal entry, dated October 25, 1869, in which
Eells describes his room at Hartford Theological Seminary:
"On the South side sets a little cupboard which answers for a bureau
very well & on it are four 10x12 paper boxes, covered with glass &
containing reminiscences of travel & some mineral specimens. The
reminiscences I obtained where I have been, & some of the minerals I
picked up, & some were given by Batterson & Co. & Dr. Pynchon of
Trinity (Episcopal) college of this city for Whitman Seminary for
which they have my warmest thanks."
The minerals that Pynchon gave are listed in Eells's inventory of his
collection. There is a marginal note by the entry for Iceland Spar
that reads: "From Trinity College Dr. Pynchon."
Best regards,
Michael
