Maybe, though I'm sure it's got that autobiographical aura of
Vineland and the intro to Slow Learner. I have yet to finish
Gaddis "The Recognitions" and know I should. Some notions
of fraudulence and self-obscelecence stalk The Crying of Lot
49 and 'returning to the scene of the crime"---what OBA might
consider his worst literary crime---makes sense to me,
rather than pulling out an old story from G-d knows where.
But there's always the possibility that we'll never know.
