oh, that Orlando interviewer asking Biden if the Democratic platform is Marxist.

Critical thinking: is it totally absent from public discourse?

I guess people should take idiotic questions seriously -
ie, answer with a solemn expression:

"obviously it is not Marxist. Marxist thought encompasses a social
program which demands revolution and the creation of a new order of
things. It posits displacement of owners and managers in favor of
laborers running things - thus demanding of the laborers that they do
even more work.

Democratic thought embraces the capitalist system, and suggests

a) the enforcement of existing laws against individuals and businesses
that do harm
and b) the enactment of social programs within a capitalist framework
which will not only benefit the oppressed and protect the weak, but
will also buttress the positions of the strong and wealthy by quieting
civil unrest and eliminating hazards to public health such as beggars
and corpses on the streets.
In sum, "taxes are the price we pay for civilization""

I suppose it would be opening up a can of worms to state that sharing
of wealth is a part of the Christian canon, even more so than of the
Marxist.
But it would be good to challenge the Christian Right (which is
neither) on this important bit of turf.

"Money ain't the most important thing. Friendship is the most
important thing." - Mr Rad (in "You Got Served")
