After House of Wittgenstein, Wittgenstein's Vienna and learning of
more books about Vienna than I can read, I am convinced (again) of TRPs genius
for making it so central In Against the Day...................................

SO MUCH of modernity, the modern age, the 20th Century had some
kind of roots or even vines there...................................

One reason great historically-minded books are GREAT is when they
choose the History that most matters, I write almost self-evidently there
fore maybe condescendingly--- like Tolstoy choosing the Napoleonic wars
for War & Peace or, of course, Shakespeare's history plays of the making of England
or more. always others..........................................like Gravity's Rainbow!
