Perhaps someone knows of a good paper on the use of psychiatric terms in Pynchon. Oedipa and her Shrink immediately come to mind, there's Slothrop's Pavlovian scene, and then there's that one-off for the Deleuze and Guattari in Vineland, that brings all sorts of high priced psychological terms to mind.
