Minor spoiler warning below, but ---
I don't really consider it a spoiler to tell you that there are
a LOT of "and so forth"s in IV, and deliberately so, I guess.
They mostly appear when the novel veers into descriptions
of what may be called stereotypical hippie carrying-ons, but the
prase also appears when other clichés appear in the text: clichés that
KNOW they are clichés, mind you, and that are maybe slightly
exaggerated to emphasize their clichéness, and thus sort of turn into
meta-clichés, if that makes any sense. It's not as annoying as it sounds;
in fact, I found this verbal tic quite endearing, perfectly suited for
the book.
