Doc Sportello, IV, Lew, ATD, etc.

SPOILER ALERT................I just went back and read through those passages towards the end of ATD, with Lew Basnight living in L.A. and getting involved peripherally with Hollywood. Lots and lots of resonances and connections with IV, obviously enough, but, for anyone who's already read IV, it was interesting to note a few specific details, such as:.................hand-painted neck-ties, surf boards, and the astrologically 'unlucky' 90 degree aspect, all of which crop up in IV.
NOt a startlingly original insight, this, and one which everybody here doubtless thought of immediately this book was announced as an L.A. noir, but it seems to me that there will be a rich vein to explore in the Lew in Hollywood/Doc Sportello connections, which may be one of the strongest links between IV and other Pynchon books.
