…and enjoyed it.
Looking ahead to the P-list ping-pong match that will be the
discussion of "what Pynchon really thinks of TV and the Internet,
based on what we see in IV" thinking I'll probably sit it out this
time because the answer seems more or less clear to me.
As expected, I'm looking forward even more, to going back through IV
and plugging into Pynchon's previous novels wherever IV seems to
conjure them up. Seems to me IV is at one level a sort of guideback
through the author's back catalog, although readers who are
encountering Pynchon for the first time in IV may not see it that way.
It might be interesting to compare Doc's movements through Lower
California, with Philip Marlowe's.
Some beautiful passages in this book that sneaked up and made me stop
to ponder, the way some passages have done in my recent re-reading of
Chandler.
