IV

Got IV a day after official release at the summer arts camp where I
teach teenagers some things you can do with glass, . Started reading
at a leisurely pace. I think Pynchon encourages or even necessitates
this pace. Some awkward stuff where too many characters sound too
smart, but damn this is funny. What Doug calls "goofy-to-the-point-of-
puerile humor" is quite probably so, by any reasonable literary
standards. But to this aging fart , not identifiably over-
encumbered with literary standards, I think of it as fuckin funny as
all get out, and savor it like a relic of the true board. I suspect
that with such a great beginning it is probably destined to fall into
entropic disarray, but so far it's way groovy. He is starting to
quote himself from time to time: what is the deal with singling up
all lines? I see a richness of metaphoric implication but isn't this
the 3rd or 4th time?why so emphatic? Any thoughts?

Any plans for a group read?
