Thanks for the Amazon link guys and bringing on a brief Homer moment - Doh - but apart from being a cheap charlie, I'm sorta reluctant to add another "1984" to my struggling book-shelving . . .
I read 1984 again coupla years ago, after a 30+ year interval - rilly more as a favor to my friend Gary, who had just read 1984, in exchange for his promise to read and return my Vineland.
Enjoy 1984? hmmm . . .
It's always a pleasure to study Mister Blair's spare prose close up, but hard rilly to be moved much more by a message which has been an almost constantly resonating soundtrack to the lives of we BabyBoomers, and re-reading 1984 no longer delivers the kinda cranial whack - such as one might imagine after downing in one a double of the toxic gin up with which our poor protagonist Winston had to put - whereas Vineland still did third time round, with prompt from Babies of Wackiness and some idle Googling up on the Rex-84 program . . .
My memorable moment for the year 1984 was pre-loading with a rhino-dart from a "barette" of Moroccan dirt-bar, courtesy of the guys in the Jardin Albert Premier in Nice, rolling along to the spleandour of the Sporting d'Hiver cinema in Monaco, seeing the late great Richard Burton's swansong as Winston in the film that came out that year, and leaving feeling a lot more paranoid than the otherwise indifferent dope deserved . . .
No news yet how Gary's getting on with VL!
