Chandler & Hammett; learned accidently

Did you'all know that Chandler was born 6 years before Hammett
but that Hammett's writing career was over before The Big Sleep,
Chandler's first novel, was published? 

According to a citation--Coen Bros.' interview at Indie Wire-- on The Big Sleep wikipedia article, the Coens claim The Big Lebowski was "loosely' inspired by The Big Sleep!?...Fooled me, unless they are just foolin'...

And Chandler's response when asked by someone about doing a biography of
him: "Who cares when the writer got his first bicycle?".....
Think TRP would second that?
