"Love never faileth ..." (1 Corinthians 13.8: King Bong Bible)
... all those embittered and cynical remarks about love (not to speak of
marriage: Hey Tom, everything alright with Melanie?) in Inherent Vice ...
I wonder what happened to Pynchon in the 1960s ... Seems, since the motif
had already been there before but now got emphasized up to the dust jacket's
synopsis, that some tricky lady took advantage of him and later on did
let him fall ...
Mark Kohut:
>
> That ZOYD will not get over Frenesi, is the embodiment of his being stuck
> in the past, imho. C'mon, it is decades; his 'love' is not dependent on
> what he learns about her character; about the way she treats him.
> Most normal people's 'love' is, over time.

Now, Freud would describe Zoyd's way as "the stickyness of the libido". I'd
guess, the high-school girls Zoyd is dating give him sometimes a good blow-job,
but can they fulfil his emotional needs? And then Z & F got a kid which makes
the situation more complex. So I don't buy Mark's 'embodiment-thesis'. Also
think that Frenesi certainly qualifies as a MILF. The "M" in it is debatable.
" ... the greatest (...) IS love." (1 Corinthians 13.8: King Bong Bible)
Neither of Christian nor of Buddhist faith, no belief in hope; yet I'll
praise and defend love at any possible time. 'Spiritual' love, parental love,
friendly love, sexual love. This next song, which I dedicate to Kirsten, can
be found on the Lovesexy record ... great tour, btw, ah Millerntor/Hamburg 1988,
the whole crowd hands up in the air, singing along the refrain of 'Anastasia':
"Love is God/God is Love/Boys & Girls love God above ...", a-and then Prince
stepped forward to the edge of the stage, saying: "THIS is the real reason why
I'm here!" Too neo-hippiesque for YOU?
