The novel's TV and Film zappings are kinda old hat; I posted the
Coover babysitter stuff, and the TV stuff because I thought it might
be of interest.

Since the Babysitter and since VL and even since Wallace's famous
TV-stuff, TV and Film and Rich Media on WWW and on Phones and Kindles
and  SMART Screens, and the Consumption of TV/Film/Media has changed
in radical ways and has had a radical impact on the lives of
Americans, not to mention the International Impact.

Consider just the BRIC nations where the Consumption of Media and the
incomes or Credits to BUY Media is like a GIANT BITE into the way
people have been living. The Tubes are changing what we mean by when
we say, "I Love You."  see Mumford's Technics and Civilization, see
Postman's Technopoly.

Most of the proceeds are flowing out to a Cartel or Monopoly making
the RICH SUPER RICH while the poor kids in dirty rags sniff
glue.....sad sad weep weep Chimney Sweep ...black smoke and chemicals
in China  sick children ....Oil Oil everywhere and not a drop can be
drunk .... it sticks to the bottom of your feet and it also seeps in
to your body ... so does PVC (dangerous shit) but the water aint
potable no more ..)

This novel has a strong environmental message, Right?

In any event, there is a building in NYC, you know Pynchon will
re-locate stuff from NY to his "California" landscapes) that does have
a golden fang and its made of 22 carrot gold leaf. And that's just
what's on the roof. Inside, there are 5 levels underground, including
one with its own subway station, and in the 5 underground levels are
vaults and computers. Insurance Companies are the Engines of Wall
Street. Not Goldman, Not Merril, not BofA, not Citi, but NY Life, Met
Life ...so on. The white shoe firms in AtD, yes I know all about the
Buish Nazi Banks and Harriman ...blah blah ...are not these Investment
Banks today, the Secret ... is that the Insurance Companies and the
Hedge Funds (and Hedge Funds are nothing w/o Insurance Companies
because the Insurance Companies are the Leverage--we or our DEATHS are
the Fulcrum), just ask Eliot Spitzer, are the Golden Gangs.
