When I get an email which just contains a URL, I very rarely click on
it. Because the odds are, it'll be a waste of time.

If you're sending a link, it's really just basic operating procedure
to at least say a little about why we should bother following it.

I know some people prefer the 'excitement' of clicking into the
unknown. Personally I find no excitement whatsoever in waiting for a
page to load only to find myself angered at having my time pissed
away. On the other hand, I may be missing lots of good stuff, because
I generally don't take the risk.
