Editing Pynchon?

It must be a difficult task,
sit down with a genius and ask,
"Are you sure?"
And, while turning another page, as he looks out the window,
"Is this what you meant to say?"
 And, demure, never certain,
as he closes the curtain and turns from who might have been watching,
or who might not have been there for sure,
and screams across your eyes as he walks out the door,
the words on the page you have turned to, exactly.
It must be a tad terrible to stand there with a genius and say,
"Against the Day?"
And, "Um, Is that title chistled in stone?"
And wait for the crying  of ....
