But the old man's Preaching about the Union; taking out his Union
Card; talking Paranoid about Lists is Comic in Tone and Satiric in
intent. Who or what these ironies do not target, that would be the
hero or the legend. But there is nothing of the sort in a Pynchon
novel. The only thing that is not targeted is the poetic and the
aesthic contemplation of the transcient moments niether understood nor
desired (and clearly never the Hart of political Hunters) when Man
holds his breath in the presence of the American continent, comes face
to face for the last time in history with something commensurate to
his capicity to wonder.

All the rest is shut up and play your guitar some more.
