Bush clearly has no background in theatre since one of the most basic
gestures of clowning is precisely that backs-of-the-hands-forward
thing - a buffoonish physicality that suggests an ape-like simpleton.
It can also connote innocence, a lack of affectation, too, though...
so maybe he was schooled in performance after all. I always worried
about the caricatures of Dubya as a brainless goofball, since Not
Being Taken Seriously is a great way for a leader to get away with all
kinds of nasty stuff. Why bother with an indepth analysis and critique
of policy when you can just laugh 'what an idiot'?
