I'm not against Alice, it's just that her 'point' is often hard (for me) to see. Might help, Alice, if you started your often long and involved posts with some sort of summary of what you're trying to say.

 

 

 

I never suggested Pynchon was 'confining himself' to satirising BUsh, I don't think anyone was suggesting anything even vaguely like that. BUt I also don't think satarising Bush would threaten ATD's longevity. 

 

 

 

That Pynchon likes ambiguities is not exactly news.

 

 

I think he just threw the Jeshimon Governor sequence in for fun. It's just one of who-knows-how-many ways he used, in ATD, of commenting on current events. He also comments on a shed load of non-current events. Nobody's arguing otehrwise.....
