Disappointed

I'm still reading IV. I think it's great, or need I say "excellent," i.e.
I'm enjoying it very much and I appreciate it's intelligence and writerly
qualities. I'm certainly not disappointed by it; not because I calibrated
my expectations, but because I'm genuinely PoMo enough to think of OBA as a
writer, and not simply as the writer of two or three of the greatest books
of the last 100 years (and of which IV is not another).

IV isn't GR or M&D, or even AtD. Should it be? Why would it be?

It's good to see Pynchon shake off the weight that people want to put on his
shoulders and have some fun writing a rather good good read, with some his
familiar style and content, but without the over-arching structure that
comes across and fills the sky of his big books.

I can't wait for his next book, which I understand will be a children's
book, and it won't even refer to any of his past characters. I expect it
will be... (rubbing hands together) excellent!
