There's a laundromat-rock/blues/jazz/? club in New Orleans right
between the French Quarter and Frenchman's Street scene called
(Igor's) Checkpoint Charlie's. It's always no cover, and short sets
w/ about 5 bands per night (quality wildly varying), all playing for
tips. Decent late-night burgers & fries too. It's worth the trip.
