Re: an earlier question about whether people (detectives, others) can be effective while stoned or under the influence of harder drugs, can't help but think of David Milch, the creator of Deadwood and John From Cincinnati (a surfer/stoner/po-mo/spiritual drama that certainly has IV relevance).

"Milch had always been able to write while using drugs, and within a couple of years he relapsed. When I asked him at what age he finally stopped using heroin, he replied, "The answer to a question like that depends upon who you're lying to."
