Rilly?
My vote goes to George Martin, that's why he wrote the scores. If
you're keeping score, you know, of that sorta scene.
As a tunesmith, Paul is up there with Irving Berlin & George M. Cohan,
has written [admittedly with a lot of help from folks who can actually
read music, adjust for particular shifts in timbre and other composing
chores that Sir Paul chooses to assign to others.] a number of
"classical" pieces. Please do not take these words harshly—the names
of Paul's collaborators are on the covers of the CDs for all to see.
Sir Paul McCartney is a supremely gifted star and he has my blessings
on a whole lot of levels, including that whole vegetarian thing, man.
As an agit-prop artist, John is up there with John Lennon. And as a
composer of Musique Concrete, he's up there with Iannis Xenakis. Not
all the time, but that one time—Revolution #9— really was quite enough.
For just a moment there, he managed to blow up the machine.
