Clunky Syntax?

Is it just me or are there some sentences in IV that just don't seem  
to parse?

The most jarring example that I've come across is this, from page 137:

"The big time he'd been so crazy to get away from the beach and be  
promoted into."

Actually, I think that's just a typo--missing the preposition "for"  
after "beach."
