  Aha!  California folklore - Shasta, Bigfoot,  Wolfman Jack,    
Lemuria,  (dim bulb, here,   brown-out?)

Thank you -  I honestly didn't see it.  Perhaps I'm too close to the  
forest (so to speak) -  and some of these are from Northern California  
(a whole 'nother ball game, imo - but perhaps not as different as I  
sometimes think - and I don't think Pynchon separates them too much in  
Vineland although -  perhaps it's another one of those "invisible  
lines."
