- and the wondrous thing is that those 'essays' were really just
reviews of Pynchon's novels. I would go out on a limb and say 
that Poirier wrote the most insightful reviews Pynchon ever 
got. The review of GR in particular is simply astounding. It 
never ceases to amaze me that Poirier 'got' so much of GR in
a review which was published merely two weeks after the novel.
None of the early reviews of M&D and AtD come close to what 
Poirier achieved in that review.
