I'm in the process of reading DeLillo's Mao II (my first venture into DeLillo-dom). Since it's about a reclusive writer who's dealing with whether or not and how he should come into public view, it's really hard not to think of Pynchon (particularly with the Pynchon blurb on the back). DeLillo was apparently in the process of writing it when Vineland came out. Pynchon's been crossing lots of Rubicons: VL, The Simpsons, and now IV (book and video promo). What's next?
