Last night I got time to read only about half the chapter of 'City of
Quartz' that Heikki kindly provided. It' interesting stuff, but it
seems to me that one of Davis's aims is to enact a sort of cultural
rehabilitation of Los Angeles. Now, since Chandler spend quite a lot
of time criticising L.A. and California, would it not suit Davis's
purpose to have some way of neutralising Chandler? Just a thought.

Calling Marlowe a 'brute' or a 'Fascist' is absurd.
