It was difficult not to think a similar thought that last week when I
was reading IV and at the same time finishing up The Big Sleep then
moving on through Farewell, My Lovely. Wouldn't be surprised to learn
Pynchon had them on his desk or otherwise within reach -- or perhaps
the lovely Library of America set of Chandler's works -- the whole
time he was writing IV…and COL49.

I think there may be some direct allusions/references in IV to Chandler.
