Jesus Christ, everybody is a subject of parody in Pynchon, it's the  
nature of the beast., his M.O. But the weird but real buddy  
relationship thing between Hector & Zoyd subsumes the baser motives  
you're citing. On some weird level they're there for each other.  
There's a tiny spark of hopefulness in Vineland. In the end the point is

	Love anyway,
	Prairie.
