Not exactly. As you note further down in your post, he needs to pick
up the checks. So does Frenesi. BV wants to keep them apart; that is,
keep Prarie from Frenesi. Zoyd needs to do one public act of apparent
madness each year. BV did not stipulate this; Hector added it to the
contract. But what if Zoyd's jumping, perhaps after he forms a
business partnership with Prairie's BF, I-24, who understands the Tube
economics, grows into a big event and then goes national? Frenesi
might see Zoyd on the Tube. Frenesi might come looking for her child.
This is one of the things that motivates Zoyd. As you say, money isn't
quite everything in America.

Shakespeare didn't say this, but somebody did: "To do good to one's
enemies is love's labours lost."

Labor may be Lost but Love, not Zoyd's infantile obsessions, more like
Sasha's putting her family, even Zoyd, ahead of her Lefty Politics,
seems to still have the power to save.

Maybe not. Maybe, like Shakespeare's play, LLL, it's just a lot of
fancy-ass footwork.
