It's important because certain people inisist on negativising our view
of certain characters. And I reckon there are 'political readings' of
Vineland which do not insist on Zoyd's innocence, far from it:

I can't say with certainty why some people constantly try to run down
characters like Zoyd, but I got plenty of speculations for ya. The
most recent 'reading' suggetsed that Van Meter is a 'snitch' and
therefore Zoyd is a hypocrite and maybe even a snitch himself,
although there's also the insinuation that Van Meter is selling Zoyd
out! I don't think the text supposrts these views.
