Don't know about that 'interrupting' but Mystery Science Theatre 3000 certainly had it's fair share of strange movies you never heard of and also a reference or two to Pynchon...

Definitely one of those "I guess you had to be there" situations, KHJ [Channel 9] & KTTV [11]  featuring some of the most bizarre film libraries known to mankind, usually broken into by Cal Worthington & his ilk. Genuine Firesign Theater territory.
