while that's true in a macro-economic sense, and quite important
(it's one of the reasons keeping publishing alive) there's
no doubt in my mind that the immediate benefits, to an
author, of buying his or her book new, are more palpable.
also, if unbought by primary buyers, books may not even make
it to the secondary market but instead get tragically pulped.
