I came on the Zappa live experience late. First encounter was in '75
in Chicago on what became known as the Bongo Fury tour. Zappa and
Beefheart together live. Stunning. Since then have had the privilege
of meeting Bruce Fowler and hearing Zappa and Beefheart anecdotes out
the Wazoo. Even sat once at LACMA with Fowler and Don Preston.
Delightful human beings. It's worth seeing Dweezil's Zappa Plays
Zappa tour when it comes to your town. The focus is exclusively on
the music. As Doug pointed out, it is tight. I saw Zappa with the LA
Philharmonic in '75 after moving to LA. Afterwards a female Phil
member walked by in a sweat talking about how difficult the charts
were and how afraid she was that Zappa would get mad at her. Good
night Austin, Texas wherever you are.
