Brazilian remittences

When we were having major structural remodeling work done our house  
after buying it in 2001, I learned that Berkeley has a thriving  
Brazilian community.  Cool coffee shop/martial arts dojo focused on  
capoeira in Berkeley, or used to be, I haven't been on that block in a  
while. A whole crew of expat Brazilians built a gold-plated French  
drain and replaced the concrete slab with a foundation of gold, under  
our hillside home.
