less frenetically...and all about Marie (her early days)

so, Marie qua Marie, considered on her own:

she went to New York High School of the Arts and graduated in 1969,
she was held back a year at some point, I think she refused to take
a standardized test or something - maybe drew flowers instead of
filling in the blanks, she said...

She worked evenings at Chock Full of Nuts coffee house.

After graduation, she then lived in Manhattan and worked first sewing clothes
for mannequins, and later in a massage studio.

A friend of hers - May Pang - was the woman that Yoko Ono chose
for John Lennon to hang out with when John and Yoko were
on the rocks. May Pang wrote a book about it.

Marie was also friends with Emeretta Marks, who sang backup
for Jimi Hendrix and also on the Rolling Stones "Love is Just a Kiss Away"
and/or "Gimme Shelter" and/or "You Can't Always Get What You Want"

Marie gave up an off-Broadway part that she'd already been accepted
for in order to try out for Jesus Christ Superstar, but didn't get that part.

She worked briefly at "Max's Kansas City" nightclub.

She had another friend, Gloria, from Denmark, who used to laugh
like Popeye (kuh-kuh-kuh)

She dated a guy named David Lopez for 9 years but never really
liked him all that much.

She fell in love with a guitar player named Gary Haneline. She
was actually going by "Marie Haneline" and that name was on
her driver's license till we got married (possible loose end,
not sure how that could be - telling about attempts to find out
more would bring me back into the story way too much...)

He left her, apparently there was some scene where they listened
to "we may never pass this way again," and they didn't.

Then she had confusing episodes where it was dark in the daytime,
and she was pursued by "an inky black man" and was confined to
Belleview, and released to a halfway house or urban commune called
Everything for Everybody where every day they would give her a dollar
so she could go get a copy of her birth certificate in order to get some
kind of job, and every day she would miss the bus and spend the dollar
on little miniatures of liquor.

At some point she got her duffel bag and took a bus to Florida
where her parents had already moved. She said the bus went through
Washington DC at the same time as a gigantic peace rally, but the time
frame for her family's move was the mid-70s so one wonders...

Nothing from her on intervening time in Florida till institutionalization...

release to Alpha House in fall of 1978...
